Installing Repast Simphony
Installing Repast for use with metaABM If you'd like to build and run models in Repast Simphony models, you will need to install Repast. (At this point you can also simply continue working with metaABM and the Ascape target alone and go on to the next page.) To install the Repast Simphony environment, get the Repast Simphony plugins zip at http://repast.sourceforge.net/download.html.
  • Unpack Repast to any directory.
  • You can also install the full Simphony install or the Eclipse plugins, but we recommend against it currently. We have found that installing the Repast files as Eclipse plugins is unnecessary -- unless you want to use the Repast Groovy features -- and it can cause unnecessary Eclipse dependency issues. (Simphony uses its own separate plugin mechanism to handle runtime loading.)
  • Now, we just need to tell Eclipse and metaABM where we installed Repast so that metaABM can build the Repast Java model. First, select "Preferences" in the "Window" menu, or on the Mac, in the "Eclipse" menu. Find the Java item, open it (click left of "Java"), find "Build Path", open it, and select "Classpath Variables". Click the "new.." button. For name you need "REPAST_HOME" (UPPER CASE) and for path, enter the location of your repast install -- that is the folder that contains the unzipped repast "plugins" directory. (If you have elected to install Simphony into Eclipse, this will also be the location of your ECLIPSE_HOME.) You should have something that looks like the below.

  • We need to do the same thing for the eclipse runtime launcher. So now, navigate to "Run/Debug" and then "String Substitution". This time we want name to be "repast_home". (lower case, for reasons too obscure to go into...) The path value is the same.
